Mara Gutierrez (Diné) is a rising junior at Yale University where she is studying History with a concentration in Empires and Colonialism. At Yale, Mara works for the Native American Cultural Center (NACC) as house staff where she works on organizing the NACC’s archives and is helping with the Henry Roe Cloud Conference. She also digitizes translational sources in the Yale Blackfoot Lab that aims to aid in indigenous language revitalization and research. Mara is a Mellon Mays and Bouchet Fellow researching Diné weaving and how it persisted through the assimilation of residential boarding schools. She is interested in researching Diné histories, the migration of Indians to Trinidad and Tobago and its effects, and the history of multicultural or multiracial identities. Mara is the Co- President of the Native and Indigenous Student Association at Yale which uplifts Indigeneity across campus, and is the Producer of a comedic improv group, Lux Improvitas.
