"Cure for a Cough" C Haines Medicinal Book

Sunday, May 19th from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. ET

Join us on May 19 at 1:00 p.m. ET as we transcribe the stories of Philadelphians during the American Revolution. These documents are digitized and available for viewing on The Revolutionary City: A Portal to the Nation’s Founding’s digital portal but they still need to be transcribed! This transcription program will have visitors transcribing Catherine Haines's medicinal and household recipe notebook from the Wyck Association Collection.

Don’t know about The Revolutionary City? The Revolutionary City: A Portal to the Nation's Founding is a one-stop-shop for students, teachers, scholars, and lovers of history to learn about diverse stories of the American Revolution from the perspective of early residents of America's revolutionary city. Learn more about the project here. This innovative digital portal was created by the American Philosophical Society (APS), in partnership with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) and the Library Company of Philadelphia (LCP). By forefronting the voices of those traditionally marginalized from the historic record, this resource hopes to provide a more complete and inclusive picture of the Revolution.

This program will take place at the APS’s Museum (Philosophical Hall, 104 S. 5th St). Please either bring your laptop or be ready with a notebook and pencil. This program will require participants to work in groups as they decipher these revolutionary stories. Per Museum policy all persons carrying a bag visiting or attending events during open Museum hours will have to go through a brief security check before entering.
