Natural Navigation
Visit the American Philosophical Society Museum from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month this summer for free, hands-on activities geared towards families!
How do you navigate Philadelphia? GPS? A paper map?
Surveyors and navigators have used compasses for thousands of years, but did you know that you can create your own using a few household items? Learn how the Earth’s natural magnetism influences compass needles and everyday metals, such as paper clips and hair pins. Learn the basics of compass making and let magnetism be your guide!
Every second Saturday of the month, June through September, the APS Museum will have free educational activities for families, individuals, and all visitors to enjoy.
