Artisanal Knowledge and Handcrafted Networks: The Founding Generation of the Members Bibliography Project
Register for this event online via Zoom.
POSTPONED TO FALL 2020 - Friday, June 19, 2020
1:00 p.m. EDT - 2:00 p.m. EDT
Join Jeffery R. Appelhans, John C. Slater Postdoctoral Fellow, and Julie Fisher, Members Bibliography and Biography Postdoctoral Fellow, with host David Gary, Associate Director of Collections, for a presentation of their work on the Society’s Members Bibliography and Biography Project. This digital undertaking launched in 2018 to create a bibliography of APS Members’ publications from the Society’s founding through the Civil War. The project also proposes new paths for bibliography work by repurposing corporate software towards the digital humanities.
Dr. Appelhans and Dr. Fisher will share their quest to track the forgotten ideas and works of the Society's earliest Members, uncovering a world lost to time—even here at the APS. By tracing the publications of the earliest Members, discover how we can listen in as the Members puzzled over snake bite cures, toppled empires, and projected ideas between Philadelphia, London, and Paris, to outposts in the Scandinavian, Asian, and Arabian worlds.
PLEASE NOTE: The event will has been postponed and will take place in Fall 2020. The event is free of charge; registration is required to attend.
