ode to lafayette

This year on Saturday September 28th the APS will join General Lafayette and other dignitaries and bands for a procession to Independence Hall commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Lafayette's ceremonial arrival in Philadelphia in 1824! Join us at the APS Museum and on Independence Mall for Lafayette related fun activities. On the Independence Mall, APS will have a table about the poem Ode to Lafayette, written for his grand return to Philadelphia in 1824 and printed on the back of a wagon in the 1824 parade. Come try out printing your own copy of the poem (on a stable table).  At the APS Museum, enjoy watercolor painting to celebrate the general's return.  These are free activities and visitors are welcome to stop for any amount of time throughout the program.

During the event don't forget to stop by the APS Museum to see our current exhibition: Sketching Splendor: American Natural History, 1750-1850. The museum is free and open to the public.

This is a free event from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Visitors are welcome to stop for any amount of time throughout the program. Hands-on activities for the whole family brought to you by the American Philosophical Society.

Please note that photographs or video may be taken by APS staff throughout the event for educational and/or promotional materials.
