The collection consists of letters written to and from John Warner, the major portion of which deal with a controversy which arose when Benjamin Peirce, of Harvard, after having seen Mr. Warner's manuscript pertaining to organic morphology, read a paper on the subject before the Providence meeting of the AAAS, 1855. In addition to the chief topic, the Papers contain many comments on the "Harvard clique," its influence on the AAAS, a controversy involving the administration of the Dudley Observatory in Albany, and the U.S. Coast survey.
